Overall Stay Impressions
Our stay at The Newbury was exceptional! The hotel’s vibe is refined yet approachable, offering a minimalistic but intentional design that reflects Boston’s rich culture and history. On-site dining is a highlight, with outstanding options for every meal or a casual cocktail. While we didn’t try the room service, every staff member we interacted with was incredibly attentive and accommodating.
Arrival Experience
The check-in process was straightforward and efficient. A friendly front desk agent explained the details of our rate inclusions, and we were pleased to be granted an early check-in. Upon entering our room, we were warmly greeted with a thoughtful touch: a bottle of bubbly, a plate of delectable macarons, and a welcome note from the General Manager.
The Room/Suite
We stayed in a Park View King room, which was impressively spacious and bathed in natural light. The minimalist decor featured local artwork, adding a touch of Boston’s artistic spirit to the space. The bedding was truly outstanding—the duvet felt like a soft cloud, and the pillows were wonderfully plush. The bathroom amenities were top-notch, with high-quality in-house toiletries provided.
Dining Highlights
Contessa: This rooftop restaurant is one of Boston’s hottest dining spots. Offering upscale yet trendy Italian cuisine, it’s housed in a glass-enclosed space that’s filled with natural light during the day and exudes a vibrant energy. While the sun can make it quite warm at certain times, the lush greenery and vibrant decor create a chic ambiance. Service was quick and attentive, making it a dining experience to remember.
The Street Bar: This dining venue provides an elevated “pub” experience with a broody, cocktail-lounge vibe reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. It’s a popular spot among locals, so it can get busy during lunch and dinner. The menu spans breakfast through cocktails, offering a versatile and satisfying dining option.
Off-Site Dining Recommendations:
The North End: A quintessential destination for Italian-American cuisine.
Oleana (Cambridge/Somerville): For those willing to venture across the Charles River, Oleana offers a unique dining experience with Turkish and Eastern Mediterranean flavors. With over 23 years of service, this gem requires reservations and is well worth the effort.
