A highlight was the spa experience at ALiLA, especially the “Scents of the Valley” session. Led by an Aftel-trained perfumer, this interactive scent experience deepened my connection to the wine country. Crafting a bespoke room and aura spray from fragrant local flora like labdanum and lavender, I created a sensory reminder of my time in Napa Valley.
Big Sur: Where Nature’s Grandeur Meets Luxury at Alila Ventana Big Sur
Continuing along the iconic California Highway One, my journey brought me to the serene and breathtaking landscapes of Big Sur. Alila Ventana Big Sur, an adults-only, all-inclusive haven, stood as a testament to luxury harmoniously blended with nature's grandeur. Every nook of this resort offered unparalleled views of the rugged coastline and the Pacific Ocean, which I took in from the comfort of my private hot tub on the porch.
A standout experience at Alila Ventana was the sunset viewing from the Glass House. This unique structure, repurposed from a shipping container, features a glass-walled deck that provides unobstructed vistas of the Pacific and the Big Sur coastline. Greeted with a glass of champagne, I watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of fiery oranges and calming purples. The Glass House also offers an exclusive dining experience, perfect for those seeking a 'wow' moment. Imagine enjoying a gourmet dinner with the backdrop of the sun setting over the ocean - it's an experience that epitomizes the essence of Big Sur.
The resort also offered a variety of unique activities, such as falconry, an educational experience with the on-property beekeeper accompanied by a honey tasting, axe throwing, and the enchanting Japanese baths for stargazing. Ending the evenings with smores by a fire, Alila Ventana Big Sur truly exemplified an adult-only paradise, combining luxury with the raw beauty of nature.
San Diego: Sun-Soaked Relaxation at Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas
The final destination of my Californian tour was the Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas in San Diego. Here, the warmer climate was perfect for morning yoga and a bike ride into the town of Encinitas for some leisurely shopping and exploration. While I missed out on surf lessons, the resort offers boards curated by legendary surfer Rob Machado – a treat for surf enthusiasts.
A personal highlight of my stay at Alila Marea was the tequila tasting at VAGA. The bar at VAGA with its seductive ambiance, offers epic ocean views and cozy firepits, making it an ideal spot to unwind. The tequila tasting experience here, against the backdrop of the stunning Pacific Ocean, was both enlightening and enjoyable, perfectly encapsulating the essence of coastal luxury.
